This scholarship was created to recognize a student that exemplifies Laker Spirit while attending LSSU. The first scholarship award was given in honor of Carol Alexander who was employed by Lake Superior State University for 27 years. She was a well-loved member of the staff who was known for her cheery smiles and ability to break into song. She always had a smile on her face and everyone she met was a friend to her. Carol knew how to build community and demonstrated wholehearted enthusiasm to the Laker community in which she served. She lost her battle with stomach cancer on October 13, 2009. In addition, LSSU employees, past and present, will gather annually to honor her spirit of community and recognize the scholarship recipients and other faculty and staff who follow Carol’s lead of Laker pride and spirit. Successful candidates must be a full-time student majoring in any course of study at LSSU with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate involvement in community and campus activities.
