It was 1990 when a small group of community leaders gathered to talk about helping Sault High graduates reach their goal of a college education. The idea of creating a scholarship supported by Sault Area High School and Loretto High School alumni was spearheaded by 1946 Sault High grad, Demosthenes (Denny) Booth. Denny’s father, Anthony Demosthenes Booth, planted a seed within his son, stating: “If you leave the Soo and become successful, remember your hometown.”
Since its inception, the scholarship has reached an endowment level of over $300,000. Thanks to the many Sault High and Loretto High alumni, who support education opportunities for the local community, many deserving Sault High graduates receive scholarship awards while attending Lake Superior State University.
A single contribution or accumulated contributions of $250 or more entitles you to designate your name or that of a special person in your life to be placed on the Sault/Loretto High School Wall of Honor plaque displayed in the LSSU Walker Cisler Student and Conference Center. Accumulated contributions of $5,000 or more will create an annual perpetual scholarship in honor of an individual named by the donor.
Will you join us to help your local, talented and determined young people reach their goals by supporting the Sault/Loretto High School Scholarship? Your gift not only offers a special way to remember your hometown; it provides an educational opportunity that will last a lifetime.
