This scholarship was established by Ken and Kate Heikkinen in memory of their son. Sven was a 1982 Pickford High School graduate and earned a Mechanical Engineering degree at LSSU in 1993. His unexpected death in 2007 at the age of 43 left an indelible void to all who knew Sven. He had a genuine love for LSSU and, in particular, the school of engineering. It is his parents’ wish to honor his memory with a scholarship to benefit future LSSU engineering students. This merit scholarship is awarded to an engineering student majoring in any engineering field with a minimum 3.0 GPA and based on a recommendation by the LSSU Engineering faculty.
