Applying for the Philip A. Hart Memorial Scholarship
The Philip A. Hart Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to up to three Michigan students whose ideals and goals reflect those of Senator Philip A. Hart. The scholarship is a full-time tuition award and is renewable based on meeting the distinguished scholarship renewal criteria.
Graduates of Michigan high schools or students transferring from another Michigan college or university planning to attend Lake Superior State University are encouraged to apply. Eligible students must be accepted for LSSU Fall Semester 2020 Admission by December 20, 2019 and are required to have a cumulative 3.0 GPA as of their current year of study.
How to Apply
Successful candidates must demonstrate interest in public service, as reflected through leadership roles and public service activities in their school, church, and/or community.
Application: Complete the online application that includes listing up to three (3) leadership roles and up to three (3) church, school or community projects that you participated in
Essay Question: Each candidate is required to submit a formal essay not to exceed 500 words demonstrating how your leadership and community involvement align with the goals and ideals of Senator Hart. The essay must be submitted online as a Word or PDF document
*Letter of Recommendation: Submit one (1) letter of recommendation from a church, school or community leader who can attest to your leadership and/or public service activities
*Transcript: Submit a copy of your most current school transcript.
