Since its inception in 1977, more than 140 Hart scholarships have been awarded to LSSU students who have gone on to become doctors, teachers, engineers, nurses and executives in the world of business. They are a large part of Lake State’s pride and Philip Hart’s vision success for the students of LSSU.
Roughly 94 percent of all students at Lake State require financial assistance to meet the rising costs of education. This funding adds up to nearly $33 million annually. The largest percent of this funding is made up of student loans that must be repaid with interest after graduation. Hart Scholars tend to be student leaders, and thanks to this award, recipients have time to focus on their studies and develop their leadership abilities through involvement at Lake Superior State University.
Thanks to the college experience made possible by the Philip A. Hart scholarships, graduates have gone on to make exceptional contributions in their respective fields and in their communities.
